Historic Electric Signage in Victoria
This study was commissioned in 2001 by Heritage Victoria and the City of Yarra in order to identify, compare and assess the cultural significance of neon and electric signage in the City of Yarra and across Victoria. It developed assessment, management and retention strategies for this type of signage in Victoria. In 2007 we were commissioned to prepare a conditions and works report on the Skipping Girl sign at Abbotsford, which included planning for her removal from the building to be repaired offsite.
For this project we:
Identified iconic neon across Melbourne
Created a typology of electric signage in Victoria
Developed criteria for evaluation
Documented significant examples in Victoria
Prepared works plan for repair and refurbishment of the Skipping Girl
